Bat Hospital Visitor Centre

Enjoy an intriguing insight into the world of bats at the multi-award winning Bat Hospital Visitor Centre. They have Advanced Ecotourism accreditation and have rated #1 on Trip Advisor for attractions in this area for some years. They have been voted into Best of Queensland Experiences and Trip Advisor’s Travellers Choice Award for the last four years. Recommended on Lonely Planet and Le Guide du Toutarde.

You will meet small insectivorous microbats, and larger fruit and nectar eating megabats like flying foxes. The Visitor Centre experience includes a short video about the hospital, and world-class interpretive signage.

Personalised tours operate daily throughout the year, but bookings are essential. Tours have a maximum of 10 people, usually begin between 3 and 4 pm and last about an hour. The flying foxes live in a six metre high cage and tours are timed for when they come down to eye-level for feeding.

Situated on five acres of landscaped gardens, and nestled in a tall eucalypt/rainforest valley, a visit to the Bat Hospital can also offer a great birding experience. Visit Hasties Swamp, a fabulous migratory bird wetland just down the road. They attract visitors, volunteers, students and researchers from around the world, and have won numerous awards for conservation.
