Mareeba is an hour’s drive west of Cairns and its multicultural heritage has given the region its distinctive flavour. Nature based experiences can include cooling off in the rock pools after exploring around Emerald Creek Falls where there are public toilets, barbeques and tables, and a walking track leading to an excellent lookout. A popular locals’ picnic spot, Davies Creek Falls, also has camping grounds and there is a moderate 850 metre circuit walk which takes you to the head of the falls.<\/p>\n
The Mareeba region is acknowledged by birding experts as the richest region for birdlife in Australia.
